Production/Training Pilot

Joseph R. Stoney is the senior Instructor pilot and assistant chief for training. Joe is responsible to support the Chief Pilot of Standardization and Training at Sikorsky, A Lockheed Martin Company, encompassing both Commercial and Military aircraft. Joe’s charter is to provide the leadership and oversight for all Instructor Pilots at Sikorsky Aircraft, ensuring that Sikorsky continues its outstanding flight training safety record throughout the global enterprise, including definition and implementation of processes and procedures that guarantee success.

Since joining Sikorsky Aircraft in August of 2011, Joe has performed in a variety of assignments from Chief Pilot Sikorsky Training Academy, Middle-East Chief Pilot, Production Test Pilot, and as the Middle East Training Program Manager. He has also been instrumental in developing new business opportunities through contract negotiation and contract expansion. He has flown in many international countries: United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Iraq, Brunei, Turkey, and Chile.

At present his assignment is a production and training pilot located in West Palm Beach, FL. He is charged with production, test and development, contract execution, and customer training. Joe is responsible for conducting acceptance test flights on new production S70 variants to include the HH/UH-60M, USAF CRH H-60W, Armed Blackhawk, S70M, and S70i aircraft. Joe’s directive is to assure the final product meets Sikorsky’s rigorous requirements for both effective and safe operations prior to delivery to the customer.

Prior to joining Sikorsky Aircraft Joe was a Warrant Officer in the U.S. Army where his responsibilities ranged from Line Pilot, Instructor Pilot and Project Manager. Joe served two combat tours in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2004 to 2005 and again from 2006 to 2008.

Joseph received a Bachelor of Science degree in Professional Aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and an Associates of Science from Brigham Young University-Idaho in Business Management.

He has flown both military and civilian and accumulated over 5,000 safe flying hours in all environments; domestic, international, and combat. Joe has been recognized by the Army Aviation Association of America for his honorable service of 10 years in the US Army and was awarded the Honorable Order of Saint Michael Award-Bronze.
