Kotroni, Greece, March 20, 2024 – The Hellenic Navy today welcomed three MH-60R SEAHAWK? helicopters into the fleet during a special ceremony at Naval Air Station Kotroni-Marathonas. Representatives from helicopter manufacturer Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin company, joined the Hellenic Armed Forces and delegates from the Government of Greece headed by His Excellency the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

Sikorsky Maritime Systems Vice President Hamid Salim stated during the ceremony: “The SEAHAWK line of helicopters has been in operational service for over 40 years. The MH-60R aircraft is the most advanced SEAHAWK variant, equipped with integrated mission systems and sensors that enable aircrew and naval commanders to simultaneously search for submarines and surface vessels, and prioritize actions when they are found.”

MH-60R Seahawk helicopters are designed and built to U.S. Navy specifications, bringing transformational anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare capabilities to navies around the world.

The three MH-60R aircraft recently arrived in Greece aboard U.S. Navy transport planes. Each aircraft had previously completed all necessary flight tests at Sikorsky in the United States in order to be integrated into the Hellenic Navy. Four additional aircraft will arrive in 2025 to complete the Hellenic Navy’s seven-aircraft purchase.

The three MH-60R aircraft will join the Hellenic Navy’s fleet of S-70B/B-6 SEAHAWK aircraft at Naval Air Station Kotroni-Marathonas. Known as Aegean Hawks, the older maritime helicopters were acquired direct from Sikorsky between 1994 and 2005.

The Hellenic Navy MH-60R SEAHAWK fleet is common with 330 MH-60R and 250 MH-60S SEAHAWK aircraft currently in operation with navies around the world. Sikorsky and the U.S. Navy will continue sustaining and upgrading both weapon systems for maximum threat deterrence and operational capability.

In Europe, Denmark operates nine MH-60R aircraft. Spain and Norway placed orders in 2023 for a combined 14 MH-60R aircraft.
